How to Read SMS History in Android Application

Today in this android tutorial, we will help to fetch the SMS message history from your android application. It’s very simple and easy to get message of all types INBOX, OUTBOX, DRAFT. Along with this you can fetch more information about the messages.

It has format as below,

  • Phone Number – It’s either receiver or sender contact number will be display.
  • Message Types – It’s shows what kind of message type you would receive. ie., INBOX, OUTBOX
  • Message Body – It’s display the content of SMS (message), either receiver or sender.

Steps to Get SMS History – Android:

Step 1 :  Create a new project as File –> New –> Android Application Project.    Enter the project name as smslog and package name.

Step 2:  Ensure to have a  java file under the src –>, copy my below coding  and paste it into your application.

Step 3: Under Layout–> create and copy the below xml coding “activity_main.xml” into you application as like as below,

Step 4:   It’s very important to  add permission in AndroidManifest.xml file to provide READ access for your android application.

Step: 5 Finally, you launch your SMS  History application to check the output of your SMS Log.
